Interview
Today I oversee both preconstruction and construction operations, which allows us to connect strategy with execution. When teams align early around scope, cost, and schedule, projects move far more efficiently once construction begins. The best projects are set up for success long before the first shovel hits the ground.
3. You led industrial development during the e-commerce boom. What did that period teach you about speed, scale, and managing client expectations? The rapid growth of e-commerce created unprecedented demand for industrial space and required development and construction teams to move faster than ever before.
That period reinforced the importance of decisiveness, efficiency, and strong partnerships across development, design, and construction teams. With aggressive schedules, clear communication became essential. Being transparent about timelines, costs, and potential challenges helps build trust and allows teams to make informed decisions quickly. Speed matters but trust and transparency matter even more.
4. During the pandemic, cost volatility became a major challenge. What strategies proved most effective in maintaining project viability amid constant price fluctuations? The cost volatility the industry experienced during the pandemic was unlike anything we had seen before. Material prices changed rapidly and supply chains that had long been reliable suddenly became uncertain.
The most effective strategy was to increase communication with both clients
Construction is an industry where experience and perspective are incredibly valuable, and having people who are willing to invest in your growth can make a tremendous difference
and trade partners. Early procurement, continuous pricing updates, and open dialogue about risk allowed teams to adapt more quickly. Flexibility in materials and sequencing also helped keep projects financially viable during a very unpredictable time. In uncertain markets, transparency becomes your most valuable tool.
5. Chicago presents unique complexities: tight sites, logistics, community considerations. What’ s different about executing infill and adaptive reuse projects in an urban market like this? Executing projects in a dense urban market like Chicago requires a completely different level of planning and coordination compared to greenfield development.
Tight sites, limited staging areas, pedestrian traffic, and coordination with surrounding businesses make logistics just as critical as the construction itself. Deliveries, crane placement, and sequencing must all be carefully planned to keep projects moving while minimizing disruption to the surrounding environment.
